While new to the United States, Kettlebells have a rich International history. Greek athletes are believed to have used a form of Kettlebell training in the first Olympics and a variation of Kettlebells, the “Granite Padlock” was used by Shaolin Monks to heighten their Kung-Fu skills. More recently, Bruce Lee was known to have used Kettlebells to sharpen his martial arts skills.

In the early 1900’s, Kettlebells gained popularity among European, Canadian and American strongmen who recognized the functional value of the training. Around 1940, while the Kettlebell’s popularity in the West waned, it flourished in the Soviet Union. In 1948, the first Kettlebell competition was held in Russia and later became its National Sport. Today, Russian Kettlebell training, is a stalwart for training Russian athletes and the military and we are very excited to offer Kettlebell training here at Kratos.

The multiple uses and applications for Kettlebells as a compliment to our unique training program make it our most diverse tool for athletes. From explosive lifts, strength exercises and core training, the Kettlebell can do it all. Aside from the functional value, Kettlebells add a cardiovascular and “mental toughness” element consistent with the philosophy at Kratos.

To sum it up, if you haven’t trained with Kettlebells, you haven’t trained!
